Ergonomic Workplace
Many experts in the field of ergonomics believe that the extended use of any computer screen has the potential to cause serious injury to your eyes, neck and back. A proper chair and positioning your monitor correctly can help avoid many aches, pains and tired eyes.
The viewing angle of your monitor is very important. Ergonomists recommend that the optimal position of your monitor should be slightly below eye level. When looking at the center of your monitor there should be a downward visual angle of approximately 10-20 degrees.
The height of your monitor is equally important. As a general rule of thumb the height of your monitor should approximate the following guidelines.
· A tall Male (72”+) the monitor should be approximately 22” high
· A short Male (under 72”) the monitor should be 14.5”-22” high
· A tall Female (70”+) the monitor should be approximately 20.5” high
· A short Female (under 70”) the monitor should be 14”-20.5” high
For your visual comfort the viewing distance between you and your monitor should be between 20” – 29”.
The angle adjustment to reduce reflection on your monitor should range between 5 degrees forward tilt to 15 degrees of backward tilt.
Your chair should also be of proper height. When properly seated, both feet should be flat on the ground, your back and neck straight. Your arms should form a 90 degree angle to your shoulders. If you’re like me, properly sitting in the chair is difficult to do and takes Constant practice to accomplish the correct sitting technique.
